Steve May has spent his career fighting for what’s right — in uniform, in public office, and now, for veterans who are stuck in government gridlock.

An Army officer turned state legislator, Steve knows firsthand how bureaucracy can fail veterans at the moments they need help the most. He built DD214 Direct to fix it.

In the 1990s, Steve served as an officer during the Kosovo crisis and took on one of the military’s most controversial fights — successfully challenging his discharge under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” He later served in the Arizona House of Representatives, where he led the repeal of outdated laws and chaired the House Ways and Means Committee.

But the idea for DD214 Direct came from something simpler: listening. Over and over, Steve heard from veterans struggling to get their discharge paperwork — running into delays, dead ends, and lost documents when what they really needed was speed, clarity, and someone on their side.

So he created a service that does it better. Faster. Smarter. Veteran-led and mission-driven - with real people behind every request.
